The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Security has announced plans to convene a high-level peace dialogue aimed at addressing the deteriorating security situation in Plateau State, following recent violence in Jos.
The unrest in Jos, the state capital, reportedly began with coordinated attacks by gunmen and escalated through a series of reprisal incidents, raising fresh concerns about stability in the region.
In response, the committee said it would host a broad-based engagement bringing together key stakeholders to examine the underlying causes of the crisis and chart a path toward lasting peace. In an invitation issued by the committee’s chairman, Wale Hammed, participants were drawn from across government, security agencies, traditional institutions, civil society, and the international community.
According to the statement, the one-day event will also include religious leaders, academics, researchers, and members of the public, reflecting what organisers described as an inclusive approach to conflict resolution.
The dialogue, themed “Restoring Stability and Unity: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Security in Plateau State and Beyond,”* is expected to serve as a platform for participants to exchange perspectives, share experiences, and propose practical strategies for sustainable peace.
“The gathering aims to examine and address the root causes of the security challenges in Plateau State and beyond, while collaboratively developing practical and sustainable solutions,” the committee said.
It added that the conference would foster collaboration and strengthen unity among stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of promoting long-term stability in the state.
A communiqué outlining key resolutions and recommendations is expected to be issued at the conclusion of the dialogue.
