Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have reportedly joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following the emergence of a video showing both leaders receiving membership cards.

The footage, which surfaced on Sunday, captures what appears to be a formal registration process. In the video, Kwankwaso is first presented with his membership card, followed by Obi, suggesting their official entry into the party.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, with increasing efforts to forge a united front.

Earlier on the same day, Obi and Kwankwaso held a closed-door meeting with NDC leaders at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson. The meeting, which took place in Guzape, is believed to be part of broader consultations aimed at consolidating opposition forces and building a viable coalition.

The two politicians arrived at the residence at approximately 5:18 p.m., where they were received by a crowd of supporters associated with the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, who chanted “O-K is okay” as they entered the premises.

Kwankwaso was dressed in a white babanriga complemented by his signature red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap, while Obi appeared in an all-black kaftan with a matching cap.

The reported move follows earlier remarks by Buba Galadima, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party, who had indicated at a stakeholders’ meeting that two prominent politicians were set to unveil a new political platform.
