President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power.

The request was conveyed in a letter read on the Senate floor on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In the letter, the president stated that the nomination was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which requires Senate confirmation for ministerial appointments.

“I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read. The president also urged the Senate to give the request expeditious consideration.

Responding, Akpabio assured that the nomination would receive prompt attention, referring it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate legislative action.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had announced Tegbe’s nomination in a statement, noting that it had been transmitted to the Senate in line with constitutional provisions.

Onanuga described Tegbe as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance. He has also advised government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.

The nomination comes shortly after the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
