The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate allegedly linked to a firearm recovered in connection with the case of aspiring musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, who was fatally shot by a police officer in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, June 8. He said the arrests followed an intensive intelligence-led investigation launched after a Beretta pistol was recovered at a motor park in Uvwie Local Government Area on May 1.
According to the police commissioner, operatives tracked and apprehended the suspects during coordinated operations conducted across Bayelsa and Imo states. The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike.
Providing details of the investigation, Oyeniyi said Emmanuel Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4, 2026, alongside a friend and roommate whose phone was allegedly used to facilitate communication for the firearm transaction.
The police commissioner stated that Chukwuemeka confessed to purchasing the firearm from Amadi Princewill for N290,000 before selling it to a suspect identified as Desmond, who remains at large, for N380,000. According to investigators, Desmond subsequently waybilled the firearm to Effurun and allegedly contacted Ogidi to receive the package and transport it to Sapele.
"Following the confession of Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, the second suspect, Amadi Princewill, was tracked and arrested in Imo State on May 15, 2026. During interrogation, Princewill stated that he purchased the firearm from one Amadi Felix for the sum of N200,000. Consequently, Amadi Felix was traced and arrested in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16, 2026," the commissioner said.
The arrests are the latest development in the investigation surrounding the death of 28-year-old Ogidi, who was reportedly at an Effurun motor park on April 26 to collect a waybill package on behalf of a friend.
According to accounts of the incident, the package was found to contain a concealed Beretta pistol. A video that later circulated on social media showed Ogidi restrained and pleading with officers after his arrest. The incident sparked public outrage following allegations that he was unlawfully killed by a police officer identified as ASP Nuhu Usman.
The Delta State Police Command said investigations are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to apprehend other suspects and dismantle the alleged gun-running network.
