The Kano State Government has allocated ₦1.5 billion for its upcoming mass wedding programme, which is expected to benefit 3,000 couples.
The Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, announced this on Monday, June 15, 2026, while briefing journalists on preparations for the event.
Daurawa said the government will spend the approved funds on items such as furniture, food supplies, dowry, clothing materials for the couples, and a ₦100,000 cash grant for each bride, alongside other related expenses.
He added that, in partnership with the State Ministry of Health, the board has already commenced medical screening for prospective couples. The tests include screening for hepatitis, pregnancy, HIV, genotype compatibility, and other sexually transmitted infections.
According to him, over 5,000 applicants registered for the programme, but only 3,000 couples will be selected after the screening process.
He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for initiating the scheme, noting that the governor will announce the official date for the weddings.
