The Kogi State Police Command has announced that it will commence enforcement of the compulsory use of reflective jackets bearing serial numbers, alongside riders’ identification cards, for all commercial motorcyclists across the state starting July 1, 2026
According to the Command, the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve the identification and traceability of commercial motorcycle operators within the state.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, in a statement issued in Lokoja. She stated that all commercial motorcyclists must wear reflective jackets with unique serial numbers and carry valid identification cards while going about their daily activities.
The statement added that the jackets will be colour-coded according to the state’s three senatorial districts: riders in Kogi Central will wear yellow, those in Kogi West will wear blue, while riders in Kogi East will wear red.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict enforcement of the directive while maintaining professionalism and upholding the rights of citizens.
He also cautioned officers against extortion or harassment of motorcyclists during the exercise, warning that such misconduct would not be tolerated.
The Command further stated that any rider found violating the directive will be arrested, while the motorcycle involved will be impounded and only released after full compliance with the regulations.
Members of the public were also advised to note the serial numbers and identification details of commercial motorcyclists they patronise, as this could assist security agencies during investigations and other security-related matters.
The Police Command urged all commercial motorcyclists and relevant stakeholders to cooperate fully with the new directive.
