A video circulating on social media shows human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, protesting his transfer to the Kuje Custodial Centre in a prison van (Black Maria).

The incident followed a ruling earlier today by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who ordered Sowore’s remand after revoking his bail last week. Sowore is currently facing cybercrime charges filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) over social media posts in which he allegedly labelled President Bola Tinubu "a criminal."

In his ruling this morning, Justice Umar ordered that the activist remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of a motion seeking to stay the execution of the bail revocation and the bench warrant. The court also dismissed an application by Sowore requesting the trial judge to recuse himself from the case over allegations of bias.

The court order triggered immediate chaos inside the premises. DSS officials reportedly stormed the courtroom and forcibly bundled Sowore outside, drawing strong protests from the activist and his legal team regarding the aggressive handling.

In a subsequent video captured outside the court, Sowore strongly resisted prison officials' attempts to place him inside a Black Maria. He was seen kicking and shouting in protest, declaring that he is not a criminal and would not subject himself to transportation in the high-security prison vehicle.
