The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Brayas Nanas after operatives allegedly discovered a firearm concealed inside a loaf of bread during a routine security operation in Port Harcourt.
According to the police, officers conducting stop-and-search duties along Azikiwe Road near Red Cross Junction intercepted a vehicle and carried out a thorough search of its occupants. During the operation, a Browning pistol hidden inside a loaf of bread was reportedly recovered from Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, who was travelling as a passenger in the vehicle.
The command said preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm had no visible serial number, raising concerns about its source and intended use. The suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the weapon and told investigators that he purchased it in Okrika for N800,000.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, noting that criminal elements are increasingly adopting deceptive methods to evade law enforcement.
He said the concealment of a firearm inside a loaf of bread underscores the ingenuity of criminals and highlights the need for sustained vigilance by both security agencies and members of the public.
The police added that investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the weapon and whether the suspect has links to any criminal activities or networks.
