The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his viral comment allegedly calling on supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the Accord Party.

The invitation followed widespread outrage on social media after a video surfaced showing the senator allegedly directing APC supporters to attack members of the rival party during the electoral process.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police asked Fadahunsi to appear and “clarify the circumstances” surrounding the remarks reportedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.

The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, directed the senator to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 12.

According to the police, the invitation was based on information alleging that Fadahunsi made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” and which had subsequently circulated across electronic and social media platforms.

The letter stated: “The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms.”

‘I meant kill them with votes’

In the video circulated on X on Tuesday, Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba, was heard allegedly urging APC supporters to kill members of the Accord Party whenever they encountered them.

“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” he was quoted as saying.

The comment sparked widespread backlash, prompting the senator to issue a clarification, saying his remarks had been misunderstood.

According to a statement by his team, Fadahunsi was calling on supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box by voting against it in the August 15 governorship election.

The statement, titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” described the senator’s remark as “purely political and metaphorical”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said, stressing that he was advocating a peaceful and lawful electoral rejection of the Accord Party.

The development comes amid heightened political tension ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of deploying thugs to attack and kill his supporters. The allegations have further heightened concerns over possible violence ahead of the poll.
