Political thugs have reportedly attacked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Dr Najeem Folasayo Salaam, at his polling unit during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The incident occurred at Ward 4, Polling Unit 13, in Ejigbo Local Government Area.

The attack sparked allegations of an attempted assassination of the ADC candidate, although the identities and motives of the alleged attackers could not be independently verified.

The assailants reportedly disrupted voting, chased voters away and interfered with electoral materials at the polling unit.

Footage from the scene showed a vehicle with its windows smashed and broken glass scattered around the area.

A man alleged to be one of the attackers was seen kneeling as security operatives moved in to restore order. He was subsequently arrested.

It was unclear whether anyone sustained injuries during the incident.

The police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had yet to issue official statements on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
