The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally announced former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as its Vice-Presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, effectively confirming him as running mate to Atiku Abubakar.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the National Leadership of the ADC made the decision after wide consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, as well as representatives from all geopolitical zones.
It stated that Amaechi’s nomination followed the conclusion of the party’s presidential primaries, where he reportedly emerged as runner-up, earning broad support within the party and reinforcing his profile as one of Nigeria’s most experienced political figures.
The party described the Atiku–Amaechi partnership as a strategic alliance aimed at addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges and promoting national unity, economic recovery, and inclusive development.
Amaechi’s public service record was highlighted in the statement, noting his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, his two-term tenure as Governor of Rivers State, and his service as Minister of Transportation, during which he led major rail and infrastructure modernization projects.
The ADC said his experience across legislative and executive roles, as well as his political influence in the South-South and beyond, would strengthen the ticket and enhance its national appeal.
It added that the joint candidacy of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi represents a “national ticket” capable of uniting different regions and political traditions, while offering a credible alternative for governance ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party called on members, coalition partners, civil society groups, youth and women organizations, and Nigerians at large to support what it described as a collective effort to “renew the nation and secure a better future.”
