An Anambra State High Court has granted bail in the sum of ₦50 million to a Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu JohnPaul Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya.”

Presiding over the matter, Justice Jude Obiora ordered that the defendant provide one surety and deposit the title documents of his residence as part of the bail conditions. The court further ruled that the property would be forfeited should the defendant fail to appear for trial.

In addition, the court directed Ezenagu to refrain from speaking to the media while the case remains before the court.

Speaking after the proceedings, one of the defence counsel, Barrister Kingsley Awuka, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, describing the court's decision as fair and the bail conditions as attainable. He stated that the defence team remains confident that justice will prevail.

The prosecution is being led by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN). Ezenagu is facing charges that include alleged violations of provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.

The court adjourned the case until July 3 for further hearing.

Ezenagu was arrested on March 12 during a crackdown by the Anambra State Government targeting traditionalists and native doctors suspected of providing charms and spiritual protection for criminal elements operating within the state.
