Brazil star Neymar has revealed that he broke down in tears after making his return to action in his country’s 3-0 victory over Scotland at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The forward came on in the second half to replace Matheus Cunha as Brazil secured a comfortable win to finish top of Group C with seven points.

Neymar had been sidelined for Brazil’s opening two group-stage matches against Morocco and Haiti due to a calf injury, making his appearance against Scotland his first outing at the tournament.

Speaking after the match, the 34-year-old described the occasion as one of the most memorable moments of his career and expressed gratitude to Brazilian supporters, as well as his family and friends.

“This is undoubtedly one of the most special days of my career. Every boy dreams of representing the Seleção, and I’ve been fortunate enough to experience that,” Neymar told FIFA.

“I’ve been away for a long time and desperately wanted to return. Today brought a huge sense of relief. I became emotional and cried alone afterwards because it felt incredible to live through this moment once again.

“I want to thank every Brazilian fan who supported me, especially my family and friends.”

Brazil’s goals in the victory were scored by Vinicius Junior and Matheus Cunha, helping the five-time world champions maintain their unbeaten run and advance as group winners.
