Supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State on Friday protested at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of the party’s governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu, from the final list for the 2027 governorship election.
The protesters urged INEC to urgently rectify the alleged error and publish the names of the two candidates to enable the party to participate in the forthcoming election.
The protest followed an earlier complaint by the Kano State chapter of the NDC over the exclusion of its governorship candidate from the final list released by the electoral commission.
The party blamed the omission on what it described as a computer glitch at INEC, insisting that it had completed all the necessary nomination procedures and fulfilled the requirements for its candidates to contest the election.
At the protest, NDC leaders appealed to the commission to resolve the issue and ensure that the names of Gwarzo and Rabiu were included in the final list.
The party’s Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Yusif Fasaha, had earlier called on members and supporters to remain calm while the party’s leadership engaged INEC over the matter.
“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us. We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was from the computer and that they would rectify it,” Fasaha said.
The party maintained that it was not responsible for the omission and expressed the expectation that the commission would correct the alleged error to allow its candidates to participate in the 2027 governorship election.
