Arise News anchor and media personality, Rufai Oseni, has criticized presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga over his remarks against former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Obi had on Monday urged President Bola Tinubu to emulate United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer by resigning, citing the administration’s failure to effectively address Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.
Reacting to Obi’s comments, Onanuga described the call as “puerile,” accusing the former Anambra State governor of behaving childishly.
Speaking during a morning programme on Tuesday, Oseni challenged Onanuga’s criticism, arguing that the All Progressives Congress (APC) made similar demands of former President Goodluck Jonathan before the 2015 general election.
According to him, many of the governance failures that the APC cited in its criticism of Jonathan’s administration are now evident under the Tinubu-led government.
“Was the APC also childish when it called for the resignation of Goodluck Jonathan? What they said Jonathan should resign for has happened under them too,” Oseni said.
He further recalled that the APC had once threatened to form a parallel government if it was denied victory in the 2015 election, describing such a move as far more extreme than Obi’s call for resignation.
“This was the same APC that called for a parallel government if they didn’t win the 2015 election. Do you know what a parallel government is? That’s anarchy,” he stated.
“They didn’t only say it, they went on television to defend it. So Obi called for resignation and they said it is puerile,” Oseni added.
