The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday in observance of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the decision on behalf of the government, congratulating Nigerian workers on the occasion and commending their contributions to national development.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, the minister praised workers across the country for their dedication and hard work, noting that their efforts remain vital to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity. He urged them to continue to uphold the values of patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and security, while promoting an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth.
He further called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the celebration, encouraging them to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, diligence, and collective responsibility in nation-building.
